How does Assisted Living Home Care differ from other home care agencies?
Most home care agencies provide caregivers who help seniors remain in their homes for as long as possible. While many agencies do a good job with this, they completely ignore the social aspects of living. Many seniors feel incomplete and depressed due to their loss of connection with the outside world and the things they love. We take the whole person into account and try to incorporate many of the activities that seniors love into their daily routine. We utilize technology and good old fashioned care to achieve what other agencies don’t even think about. Our caregivers are trained to look for ways to make their clients’ lives happier and more fulfilled.
What is the difference between Live-in, 24/7 and hourly care?
Assisted Living At Home specializes in live-in home care services. Live-in home care is when a caregiver stays in the home of the senior around the clock. They will live in the home with the client, but are required to maintain their own residence. With live-in care, clients are billed on a daily rate rather than hourly. This makes this type of care very affordable and easy to plan for.
With 24/7 care, caregivers work hourly around the clock. It is usually done with two twelve hour shifts or three eight hour shifts. This type of care is often required when the senior can not be left alone at all, including overnight.
Hourly care is when a caregiver comes to the home for a shorter period of time and then leaves. It offers a flexible, affordable way to get care when the presence of a caregiver is not always required.

What is overnight care?
Overnight care provides security for seniors who require attention during the evening hours. This is an ideal solution for those with sundowners, Alzheimer’s or a fall risk due to instability when getting out of bed. It also provides respite for caregivers allowing them to get the rest they require in order to properly care for their loved one and maintain their own health. A common shift could be 11:00 pm -8:00 am, but any hours can be accommodated.

Why are your caregivers different?
Assisted Living At Home caregivers are special people. We utilize both companions and NJ certified home health aides. Because of our rigorous screening process, we are able to find caregivers who do this work because they love caring for people, seniors in particular. One of the traits we look for is the desire to become the best caregiver they can be. Our training program takes their caring personalities and teaches them how to best utilize it for the people they are assisting. All caregivers must have excellent personal care skills, and on top of that, they are taught how to enrich the lives of the people they care for. No other agency stresses how important these extras are.

What does your medication monitoring do?
Most seniors take some medication. Studies of seniors who take more than one medication have found that 46 percent of older patients were experiencing at least one potentially dangerous drug-to-drug interaction. More than 1.9 million adverse drug events occur annually in seniors enrolled in Medicare, according to the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA 2003;289:1107-16). Conflicting medications and other errors cause falls, can land seniors in the emergency room or hospital, and even cause an estimated 180,000 life-threatening or fatal situations annually. Most of these unfortunate situations can be easily avoided through proper medication monitoring, a free service with Assisted Living At Home.
We utilize the most sophisticated technology to help our clients monitor their medications. Our nurse will put together a medication profile during the initial assessment which is then entered into a database. Once completed, this amazing program does the following:
• Routinely checks the safety of patient medications, screening for drug-drug and drug-disease interactions.
• Alerts patient or family and physician or agency (optional) as important safety information arises for their medications such as recalls.
• Provides an easily accessible summary of their medications and conditions that can be shared with their healthcare team.
