At Assisted Living Home Care we realize that no two people experience Alzheimer’s disease in the same way. As a result, there’s no one approach to caregiving. Responsibilities can range from making financial decisions to helping a loved one get dressed. Handling these duties is hard work, but we are available to help you.
Caring for Alzheimer’s / dementia is unlike any other type of care. The cases are often complex and require a level of understanding not taught in basic home health aide training. A true understanding of the disease requires a special dedication on the part of the agency and advanced training from both office staff and field workers.
Additionally, educating the family, friends and other loved ones about the disease has proven to positively affect the outcome of care..
Alz Well At Home is a unique program focusing exclusively on the care for people with Alzheimer’s. This extreme focus allows us to be able to handle cases which would otherwise end up in institutionalization.
What you can expect:
• A much more detailed intake process focusing on the client’s past interests and history. We interview family members, friends and neighbors to learn as much as possible about the client’s past. This is a critical first step which allows us to prepare the plan of care.
• A care manager who has received special Alzheimer’s training to learn how to manage care givers, family members and clients who are dealing with dementia. They will oversee the case and ensures proper care is given. Each case is unique and requires the expertise of an experienced care manager to help the aide learn how to properly care for their client. If problems do arise, the care manager steps in to correct anything and make things better.
• A caregiver who has received special Alzheimer’s/dementia training. The caregivers selected posses the intelligence, temperament and skill to manage difficult clients with gentleness and dignity. This approach helps minimize agitation and create a harmonious relationship.
• Education for family, friends and loved ones to help them better understand the disease, what to expect in the future and how to live with someone with Alzheimer’s.
• Our Music For Memory program provides a free iPod programmed with meaningful music specific to the user. It also includes a wall charger and headphones (rather than earbuds) or a speaker. No computer is needed.
• Our Visiting Paws program provides therapy dogs to visit with clients who love animals. Like Music Therapy, Pets can also have a very positive affect on those suffering from Alzheimer’s.
• Access to a dementia coach. With extremely complex cases, we utilize the service of a national renowned dementia specialist who consults with the family and our care manager often bringing results that were thought to be unobtainable.
